PARKING LOT

Question's that were sent on May 16, 2012 on the Parking Lot. 1. Has  the  land been designated commercial, or is it still zoned residential?  2. H as the land been officially surrendered? Is this land in the Bands name. 3. Have all environmental issues or impacts been addressed, including permits , to meet criteria, under INAC's land management act? 4. Does the Band have the right to lease out a new piece of land without consultation and referendum by the members? And if so how did we do that? 5. Did  the Casino not purchase the Willison property for RV Campers to use?  Thank You Cheryle Snache

  1. As someone who has followed the parking lot idea (along with Cheryle) since it was first introduced to us (community members) as a master plan and referendum item in 2010, l re-sent the questions to C& C on May 30th. On June 1st, the Band Manager replied that Council was discussing this on June 4th. So, l anticipate a response tomorrow...

  2. So today l received an email from the Band Manager saying that he "will reply by Thursday as he is "out on Friday on business."

I guess neither Chief or Council know how to operate a computer and reply!?

    Wow...

  6. After l posted on June 5th, l sent another email to the Band Manager and C&C, asking why can't anyone from C&C respond to the questions about this parking lot...No one replied...Well l know one thing for certain, and that is l will not vote for any of these puppets should they run (since most of our money is spent) in the next election!

  7. Finally, got a reply from the Band Manager's secretary, not the Band Manager and not C&C...well its a little too late as far as lm concerned...

Now they're saying the parking lot was not part of a master plan, and once the master plan is done, it will be presented to community for consultation, ppfffttt! More exclusion. They didnt answer the question about current zoning, but said the land was in an identified commercial corridor, so lm going to speculate that the zoning is probably still residential. And even tho they originally said there would be a surrender of lands for the parking lot, now they are saying a surrender is not required. The reply goes on to say that l should refer to the Indian Act re surrenders instead of explaining/answering how they did it, as l asked.

Hope l hear something back from INAC on this matter...

  8. Well we got another reply, from the Chief this time, and its the same old same old. Im not going to go into details cuz its been going on now for so long, and the bottom line is that its happening, we're getting a parking lot.

We did finally get an acknowledgement from INAC. It took 3 weeks to get a form letter issued to us. Hehe. Oh well better late than never. Maybe they'll get more than lip service from C&C.

Funny thing, this parking lot is on part of a wetland, and they dug it up a bit and then started to drain the excess water that kept coming. Then after a week or so, they filled it in with gravel and started packing it down, but it kept getting wet. No kidding, its on a wetland! So they dug a trench last week and put a drainage pipe or something in there. And then it seemed like everyone went home, probably cuz it was Friday. Hmm, wonder what will happen next...
