RAMA HOST MEETING - Aboriginal Economic Development Board
I wonder what Chief Clarence Louie of the Osoyoos Band thought as he was given a tour of Rama . One of the most success full Bands in Canada In 2000 Osoyoos set a goal to become economically self - sufficient in five years it succeeded. Not bad for a band that was bankrupt and taken over by Indian Affairs . when he took over as Chief and turned it into an inspiration.. Today they have RV parks vineyards, winery , construction company , cement companies, cultural center and a $100 million interest in hotel and conference. . Louie believes good government involves being accountable and transparent - to its own constituents. He believes depending solely on federal government foe payouts will not break the cycle of poverty or address the social ills that colonialism, residential schools and the reserve system have inflicted. If you create jobs you will reduce health issues, social problems and addictions. .. Given that the tour was with the Chief and band Manager i can just imagine what was said. To bad the members of Rama are not included in these meetings . With the lack of economic development in our community how has a seat on this board by Sharon Henry helped us ? Cheryle Snache

To show such disrespect to one of our few women warriors shows not only do you have no class whatsoever, but you also choose to ignore the many serious issues facing Rama right here and now. After all, Cheryle is not hiding behind Anonymous like you are.

ReplyDeleteSince you are "Anonymous", l can only wonder if you live in Rama, and if you're involved in the community? I wonder, do you work, or if you belong/related to the clique (C&C and their group)? I wonder if you have children, who will inherit what we leave behind? Im not talking about your house and car, or money, which is your own corner of the world. Im talking about our FN community, the land, jobs, our history, and living guided by the 7 Grandfathers.
Cheryle is not making up shit. Chief Louie did visit and have a tour. I only hope the C&C listened and learned something, cuz we dont have economic stability and we dont have government transparency (no matter how many times the leadership tells us we do).
A lot of people see it and cant say anything cuz they work for the Band. If you dont see it, l wonder if maybe you just moved here.

Im gonna go with Tracey on this one. This person doesn't live in Rama; or is new to Rama. Anishinabe don't speak to one another this way. Families in Rama don't speak this way. Jeesh.

DeleteI have been reading this forum for some time, interested in the issues, current affairs, and perspectives presented, and how they impact our families. This posting brings to light numerous issues affecting our people. #1: On-reserve, or off-reserve, we are related, we are family, many of us deeply connected to the land, water, and our grandmothers and grandfathers resting in the graveyard. For many, it is our first home, our first love. #2: As for the "f-bombs" they are not partial to off-reserve, or recently returned mouths. Some enormously outspoken Anishinaabe are "the life-ers", with nothing more to lose, when so much has already been lost. #3: There is a duality ever-present in our lives, choices to make, influenced by a struggle, between achieving balance in our minds and our hearts, between the past and the future. Cheryle is our people, Sharon is our people, they both say and do things that may be welcome and appreciated, or unwelcomed and frowned upon....they are both Anishinaabe-kwe, deserving respect...which of course, is earned. I see both as presenting critical issues, and addressing them, often receiving controversial responses. #4: "Warrior" is a term loosely used and understood. Ogitchidaa is our word. Cheryle is Ogitchidaa-kwe, standing up for our earth, our ancestors, children, and for a collective voice, and the rights of our people. For these things I commend her, this takes courage. #5: It is critical to understand that violence begetts violence...social, verbal, spiritual...in every respect. Everyone is doing the best they can, with what they have been taught, with what they know. I can see how not being heard, or spoken to in a good way, or understood, can be so devestating to individuals, families, and a community. #6: Communication, dialogue, informed choices, accountability, and responsibility...will be key to iimproving community wellness and transcendence into a healthier future.

Clearly, there is NO EC DEV in our community! Unless you call investments in places unknown and unseen to us. What are we getting out of these investments? NO JOBs for our future generations here. NO SECURITY

I've heard of another community in the East, that brought home all of their graduates, and asked them to give them time and expertise to rebuild their community into something more sustainable...and they too are thriving.
Clearly, Rama could use the help!
