PARKING LOT

In this months Ojibway Times the employee parking lot was mention saying while there was no Master plan to be shared yet, when one is ready it will be presented to the community.  The parking lot will be built in the coming months. I have some questions about the whole process . First we were told that there would be a vote on the 2011 Deal and when there told us about the new deal April 2010 at a community meeting we were told no vote . We were told that the members would have input into the Master plan while this has,nt happened. And this is how OLG supports Casino by investing in the parking lot ,.one we have no say in  gee thanks .              More of the same propaganda the new deal will be worth $1- billion to Rama over 35 years. If you believe that your living in a dream world.

    I am annoyed and disappointed with C&C over this. At two different meetings in 2010 and 2011, l asked if we would have a referendum on the parking lot and was told "yes". Well on Remembrance Day 2011, l "heard" there was not going to be a referendum. I requested a response from Council and they wanted me to wait til the end of January 2012 to hear a "yes" or "no" for the parking lot referendum. I said "Why do l have to wait 2 months for a "yes" or "no", and so l was invited to a Council meeting late November/early December 2011. When l asked the question, the Chief said "no", and l said "So you lied?" She said "I did not lie" and implied that l misunderstood. Yeah right. Twice even! Hehe As if l would attend Council on this matter if it wasnt true. And none of the Councillors corrected her, and they were at these meetings too.

    Last l knew, Isobel's property, and all those on that side of Benson Rd, were zoned residential. You cant live in a parking lot! So l called Indian Affairs, but they couldnt help because Rama is part of the "First Nations Land Management Regime" and deals directly with Ottawa on land matters. So l looked it up on the INAC website, and Rama's name, or Mnjikaning, doesnt appear on the list.? A type maybe? Hmmm...

    I remember at the one meeting, the Chief said we already agreed to the parking lot in the original casino /land plan way back, 16 or so years ago. In thinking back, the original plan was for a casino on the waterfront, it had nothing to do with Benson Rd.

    Then we were told the community would be involved in the new masterplan, which included new parking lot(s). But we havent had a community planning meeting, but were still getting a parking lot.?!

    What is the truth here??

  2. The Casino did buy land behind the casino for campers to park so why not put the parking lot there instead of the centre of the community.They are doing this to save money, The lease is up on the highway 12 soon a few months.

  3. Couple of questions come to mind;
    1. who's paying for this parking lot?
    2. if it's Rama FN, is Casino Rent to be increased as a result of this expansion/parking lot?
    3. The Casino baught land? how can this be? I thought the Casino was leasing land which the Casino is on?
    4. I heard a while back that Black River park was closed because this new camp site behind Casino didn't want competition? anyone wish to comment on this?
    Apparently non-band members/canoers on the river, know more than we do... as told by park manager, at the time.

  4. Hmm....theres been no action at the parking lot site. Wonder what's going on with that...we did send an email to C&C and Band Manager, and apparently the C&C is discussing this on June 4th in Council...
